As a parent, addiction is one thing that scares me the most. Janelle comes in and tells her story like a boss. I know you will find it as intriguing as we did. Which is a completely weird thing to say about hearing someone’s story of addiction and recovery, I know. Tell us what you thought of the episode …https://dadsww.com/contact-us/

I have worked 20 years with drug addicts and alcoholics and worked for over 8 years in rehab–I was so sorry to hear about Janelle’s story–as that was not my experience. If you were in rehab it was expected that you attend all groups, you were expected to do program group work, we had intense groups where there was much deep sharing, and yes on occasion we would find someone having sex or a relationship on the unit. If discovered they were asked to leave the program. I today still know many who came into the program who are sober. Were there some who went back to using–yes–why because the work involved is not easy and most don’t want to do the work to change those habits. I enjoyed listening to Janelle as it brought me back to the many many stories I heard over those 20 years of being a nurse in this hospital program.
